
Make sure to have lots of Poison Resistance by using the Cauldron and the Fermenter at your base. Skip ranged attacks for this fight you'll have to get up close and personal to deal significant damage to this mass of bones. It can also summon Skeletons and Blobs that will interfere with your fight. Swamp Crypts are where you'll find Withered Bones, which you'll need to summon Bonemass.īonemass has a melee strike and has a poison attack that does severe poison damage if you're close. Use the Swamp Key from the Elder to unlock the crypts.

Don't worry too much about fighting the roots it spawns just avoid them, and don't even bother with physical attacks with The Elder. Use the pillars by the altar to shield yourself from his projectile attack and keep moving. Fire arrows, in particular, will continue to do burn damage to The Elder. The best way to attack The Elder is to hit it with a barrage of arrows. You'll also want to craft a Cauldron and Fermenter to make health potions.

Use that to craft yourself a better bow, better armor, and lots of fire arrows, too. Mine tin and copper ore, smelt it down, and then build bronze at the forge.

Craft the pickaxe to mine ore, and then work to upgrade your living area with a smelter, kiln, and a forge. You'll want to do some serious preparation before this fight. These attacks hurt a lot, so watch your step. The Elder is like a giant Groot, and attacks by stomping the ground, summoning roots, and shooting vines as projectiles.

You can find Ancient Seeds at Greydwarf Nests, as well as by defeating Greydwarf Shamans and Greydwarf Brutes. You can summon him by burning three Ancient Seeds at its altar.

You can search for his altar on your own, but the best way to find his location is to find its rune stone hidden throughout the Burial Chambers found in the Black Forest.
